A pregnant Jakadrien returns to the US surrounded by her Mother and Grandmother |
If you've been living under a rock, and you're not a news junkie like me, you probably haven't heard of Jakadrien Turner. Jakadrien Turner was 15 when she ran away from her Dallas home, she decided to shoplift while she was a runaway and instead of giving the police her real name she identified herself as Tika Cortez. Problem is, police discovered a 21 year old Tika Cortez in their database as a Colombian woman with a warrant. Jakadrien never gave police reason to believe she was someone other than Tika Cortez after being interrogated which led to the deportation of the fifteen year old. Jakadrien managed to find time to party, get pregnant and get a job while she was in Columbia. More than a year later Jakadrien's grandmother found her page on Facebook under Tika Cortez. She used a little bit of her detective work and Facebook to track her now pregnant daughter down. After getting a lawyer and some much needed help Jakadrien has finally made it back to the United States pregnant and all. Her family wants to sue the government for deporting their daughter a lot of people are siding with the family but I'm on the fence about it. I do think it shouldn't be this terribly easy to get out of the country. Maybe a teenager will see this story and make up a random name and get a free all expense paid trip to Barbados.

Should the family be able to sue the government because they "dropped the ball" and violated her civil rights? Or should the government sue Jakadrien for giving a false identity and not to mention the travel expenses? What do you think?
